Temptation takes you swiming with the dolphins in south australia

Dolphin Report -December, 2007

Excellent month for dolphin numbers and dolphin interaction. This is mainly due to pods of common dolphins feeding out from Glenelg, the local bottlenose dolphins have been giving swimmers a great time with visibility around 15metres.

Interaction dropped off significantly late December, this is due to the dolphins being chased and harassed. We have even photographed the same boat on three different occasions out from Glenelg disturbing the local and common dolphins, in 7 years I have never seen a person with so little respect for the dolphin Regulations (Authorities have been notified of this.)

New legislation will hopefully be introduced in the next months to give the dolphins in South Australia greater protection. The month of December we photographed three dolphins who had fresh wounds caused almost certainly by boat propellers, one of these dolphins was so bad we don't think he or she will survive (have not seen this dolphin for three weeks.)

Dolphin Report - November, 2007

What a great month! The visibility was excellent with around 25 metres. There have been a lot of Common and Bottlenose dolphins in the waters south of Glenelg, which is great to see.

The interaction time is over an hour for November, but we will probably see a change around the middle of December when the boat traffic increases.

We are noticing a lot of dolphins have mangled fins, this is undoubtedly due to motor boats going to and following the dolphins. Some are even reversing over the top of the pods.

Unfortunately seal numbers are down, especially the fur seals, but there are a lot of penguins around.

Dolphin Report - October, 2007

The water finally started to clear up with many dolphins around in large pods.
The common dolphins were in close to shore on Saturday the 20th of October giving swimmers a magnificent swim.

There are seals all along the metropolitan coast with as many as 9 recorded on one cruise in October.

The professional/ recreational fisherman have been working the squid groups now so there should be plenty of dolphins around November.

Dolphin Report - September, 2007

Dirty water caused by a lot of strong winds left the swimmers with around 2 metres visibility for most of September.

There are plenty of dolphins around with most of these being locals. Due to this the interaction time has been over an hour on average.

We have been spotting seals on all the dolphin cruise, as well as many penguins.

Dolphin Report - August, 2007

A lot of seals were spotted sun baking on the breakwater through August. The water visibility has been poor for most of August due to the weather.

Dolphin interaction time has also been low with local dolphins feeding in close to shore or spread out searching for food.

There has been no sign of squid in the area yet, but there has been a lot of Bait Fish, which has brought a large number of Penguins off the shore.
